The Birmingham group was established in January 2018 by then leader Kate Smith with Chef Alliance member, Brad Carter and several food minded locals, all keen for some diverse independents to fit the middle gap between impressive Michelin food and its unique Balti Triangle Indian offer.

Slow Food Birmingham went on to develop innovative projects in Birmingham including a Slow Food Hub, bringing local farm produce to Birmingham, which became a significant food source for the city during Covid.

In June 2024 Jayne Bradley was appointed Chair with a plan to re-engage the hospitality sector and develop a more engaged membership. With a background in Food Policy and a food culture consultancy, she has ambitions to raise awareness slow food values across the city.

Slow Food members are invited to regular meet-ups across the city with guest chefs and producers invited to discuss Birmingham food issues.
