Wildlife protection was always part of my engagement with the countryside. Over population of deer can cause issues within the species by starvation, with the consequences of unwell and stressed animals, as well as damage to the surrounding woodlands and farmers crops.

The combination of countryside protection and deer control, as well as the fantastic properties of wild venison, instigated the love for deer management and to harvest healthy and sustainable meat from local woods.

We, as a family, have since the beginning of my deer management activities consumed wild venison not only on special occasions, but as a regular daily meat source. Stews, steaks, minced, shanks slow cooked, burgers and sausages butchered and created in my own larder have brought us many enjoyable meals over the years. The wider family has also adapted to this healthy lifestyle by being supplied with venison on a regular basis.

My retirement and also expanding deer management opportunities have now formed the base of my business ‘Bridges Game Meat’ with the motto to bring venison products to everybody’s kitchen and table at a reasonable and affordable price with availability of fresh during the main deer season from August to April and frozen in off season with additional help of the Slow Food UK organisation.

I have enjoyed  Slow Food UK members’ products for a number of years and also deliver whole deer carcasses to members of the organisation to generate fabulous cured venison products which now form part of our daily diet, hence the decision to support this group.
