New Slow Food On Campus group launched at UWL

On November 25th we launched the first Slow Food On Campus event at the University of West London. Chef Alliance member Alessandro Grano performed a Cheese and Meat demonstration using a selection of Forgotten Foods products.

Last Monday 25 November, the University of West London hosted a Slow Food On Campus Forgotten Foods demonstration with Chef Alliance member Alessandro Grano from Androuet.

The event brought together Slow Food UK’s Campus, Forgotten Foods and Chef Alliance programmes while also being the launch event for the newly established UWL Campus group led by Alexander Buchanan.

Alessandro prepared some great Gloucester Old Spot chops with mash and Somerset Cider Brandy apple sauce as well as a Stiltonand poached pear terrine covered with caramelised walnuts. The students then participated in a tasting of Somerset Cheddar, Red Leicester and Stilton accompanied by some Jersey Black Butter from our local Forgotten Foods producers.

After the demonstration, everyone had the chance to meet the Chef and sample some Grana Padano cheese provided by our Slow Food On Campus partner, Grana Padano.

We would like to thank Alessandro for the great performance and Androuet for their availability as well as our amazing producers – Gary Wallace from Butt’s Farm, Julian Temperley from The Somerset Cider Brandy Company, Trevor Owen from La Mare Wine Estate, Richard and Tom Calver from Westcombe Dairy, David and Jo Clarke from Leicestershire Handmade Cheese Company and Joe Schneider from Stichelton Dairy – for donating the products to make this event possible!
