They’ve only just become an official society at their university and already they’ve won a competition, hosted a number of successful events and recruited over 100 members. Inspiration or what? We thought we’d share their story so far…

To kick start the new year, SFOC Portsmouth organised a Come Dine With Me event, mixing good company with fine cooking and a healthy pinch of competition. Zoe’s Chocolate and Orange Cheesecakehelped her to bag the winning prize: a SFOC tshirt.

Here’s a great guide to hosting your own Come Dine With Me event.

Think too many cooks spoil a broth? Not when it’s a Disco Soup! The SFOC group teamed up with a food project running atHighbury College to run the event. The concept is simple: gather a group of people, some chopping equipment and waste food, hit the play button on your sound system and start blending. Don’t forget your party shoes! Click here to see the Disco Soup Film from Portsmouth SU.

The team brought their enthusiam from the previous night’s Disco Soup to recruit 80 new members at their Refreshers Fair. What a result! All sign ups were automatically entered into a raffle to win this Foodie Hamper (congratulations Peter Jackson!)

Well done to Leanne Earnshaw, president of the SFOC Portsmouth Society and all committee members, for your efforts so far.

Portsmouth’s success shows just how far a society can grow in such a short amount of time. It involves creativity, passion, and a bit of hard work- but the benefits can be longlasting. Small things such as keepingFacebook and Twitter accounts active, filming events and colloborating with related groups can make all the difference. A big thumbs up from everyone at Slow Food!
