Celebrate Terra Madre Day 2013

Celebrate Terra Madre Day 2013

Terra Madre Day is a worldwide celebration of local food that is held every year on 10th December. The first meeting of Terra Madre food communities was held in 2004 in Italy and brought together 5,000 producers from 130 countries.

Every year Terra Madre Day is the way that Slow Food communicates its philosophy of good, clean and fair food to the world, but also the way that Slow Food shares the important messages about local food tradition, biological diversity and taste.

This year we would like to dedicate the Terra Madre Day to the Ark of Taste: a global project that works hard to safeguard and prevent local products from disappearing. It is important to safeguard these special and endangered foods and invite you to collaborate and create a fantastic day celebrating with these amazing products! The goal is to organise 1000 events, help us and register your event here

Slow Food UK is working passionately with our Forgotten Foods programme as part of the Ark of Taste, to preserve edible biodiversity and British food heritage, to support local food communities and local producers and to ensure that these foods get back into our minds and onto our plates. With our motto Eat It – Don’t Lose It, we launched a unique Forgotten Foods Recipe Bank with recipes from our Chef Alliance members celebrating our amazing Forgotten Food producers!

Get in touch with your Local Group and be part of the 10.12.2013 Terra Madre World Celebration!

Terra Madre Day will be celebrated in an endless number of ways, from small gatherings to large events: a celebratory picnic or dinner, a film screening or concert to raise the profile of good, clean and fair food, an excursion to visit Terra Madre producers, a campaign or petition on a particular issue, food or taste education activities, a local gathering of producers, chefs, youth and others… or a combination of the above.

Local food is about tradition, culture, memories and history! Get involved by organising an event and write the future of your local food scene.
