Local Welsh Groups teaming up to help grow Slow Food in Wales!

Slideshow Image

As for many things in life, it is often when working together that we make our message and actions stronger. And from what we can see so far, it is a lesson that our local Welsh groups have understood and learnt! The 4 groups gathered to launch Slow Food Cymru/Wales at the Royal Welsh Show this summer with the kind support of the Farmer’s Union of Wales, who gave them the use of their ringside pavilion for the event. A considerable amount of media interest and support was gathered. Slow Food Cymru is an umbrella organisation at National level to represent all the Welsh convivia in dealing with their Governmental and funding bodies, and help promote the growth of Slow Food in Wales, which with a major reliance on agriculture, fishing and tourism in a sustainable manner, is a natural fit with the Slow philosophy of Good, Clean and Fair food. For further details, please contact local leaders.

Last December, Slow Food Dyfi Valley held the annual Terra Madre Learning Lunch at the Wynnstay Hotel, Machynlleth on Terra Madre Day. A very enjoyable lunch of Y Wig farm beef lasagne and a traditional Welsh rice pudding, topped with Felin Ganol apple and rosemary caramel was served, followed by a talk from veteran Terra Madre delegate Chef Gareth Johns Dyfi Valley leader, and the event raised £50 to assist developing countries send a delegate to TM2014.

In his Chef Alliance capacity, Gareth also participated in creating a recipe database for the Forgotten Foods/Ark of Taste, teaming up with Robin Jones a Porthmadog farmer to extol the virtues of Badger faced Welsh Lamb- the delicious results can be viewed in our Forgotten Foods recipe bank!
