On Sunday 14th October 2012, Slow Food UK attended Ham House’s ‘Home Grown’ Food Fair which took place at the National Trust house in Richmond, London.
The sun shone for Ham House’s autumnal food fair held at one of Europe’s greatest 17th-century houses. Food stalls were set up around the kitchen garden, enticing visitors to sample and buy delicious organic homemade foods such as jams, cakes, pumpkin soups, curries and so much more. The kitchen garden, situated next to the beautiful house, was a perfect location for the event allowing visitors to walk around viewing large varieties of fruit and veg grown by the Ham House gardeners.
Along with posy-making and cooking demonstrations, Slow Food’s Taste Adventure kept the kids entertained. The Adventure attracted nearly 200 children throughout the day with adults also coming to participate!
Volunteers including those from Ham House joined the Slow Food UK team to run the activity. There help was much appreciated!
At the end of the adventure, participants were able to sample some Grana Padano, a delicious Italian cheese produced in Northern Italy. Grana Padano strongly supports Slow Food UK’s education programmes, among which the Slow Food Kids’ Taste Adventure. Thanks to them, Slow Food UK could offer over 200 material bags to Taste Adventurers.
Thank you to all those who took part in our Taste Adventure. Slow Food UK are looking forward to returning to Ham House very soon!
