NEW SLOW FOOD UK AWARD LAUNCHES AT 5O BEST RESTAUARANT AWARDS 2012

To celebrate their 10-year anniversary, a new award has been introduced to the World’s 50 Best Restaurants for 2012: The Slow Food UK Award sponsored by Highland Park Whisky.

This award will be given to the restaurant which represents most faithfully the core values of the Slow Food UK movement; creating pleasurable food with a strong commitment to community and the environment.

The award ceremony, which is seen by many as the “Oscars of the food world” will take place on 30th April 2012, and will be attended by the world’s most influential restaurateurs, finest chefs and international media.

To celebrate the growing importance of using locally sourced, sustainable, artisan food amongst the world’s top chefs, 50 Best Restaurants are collaborating with Slow Food UK for the third year running. In addition to the award, Slow Food UK will be working with Lavazza’s rainforest brand Lavazza ¡Tierra! to create the main feature in the welcome hall and provide “Forgotten Foods” to the prestigious event guests.

The Slow Food UK Award has been developed in partnership with one of our biggest and most valued supporters – Highland Park Whisky. Established in 1798 on Orkney, Highland Park is one of the most remote Scotch whisky distilleries in the world. For over 200 years, the distillery has combined time old tradition and the very best craftsmanship to achieve perfection. Its award winning range of single malts is consistently acclaimed by connoisseurs and experts.

Stay tuned for updates on the award and more details on the other exciting Slow Food UK activity at the event.

  1. The Whitehouse Restaurant Lochaline

We opened in 2003 and have been long term supporters of the Slow movement. Not only in the way we run the restaurant but also organising local events to show case small scale food producers in a very remote part of Scotland. We have always sourced our food from our locality. We do not just say that we really do do it! We adhere to the good clear and fair principals in what we buy, who we buy from and how we employ our local staff. We are not PR savy and do not have PR agents. We are small and dedicated and would like to be considered for this award. (See Scotland the Best, Michelin Guide The ROugh Guide to the HIghlands and Islands etc
