On Sunday 22 July 2012, Slow Food UK and Slow Food Edinburgh attended the Big Tent Festival on the edge of the village of Falkland in Fife, Scotland.
The Big Tent Festival, which is also the biggest green festival in Scotland, is a muddy but merry festival, full of traditional foods and good music. Along with the Slow Food Kids’ Taste Adventure which was a great success, children could dance to the sound of various types of music, savour some traditional Scottish smoked fish and participate in many manual as well as physical activities.
The Big Tent festival is certainly one of the greenest festivals in the UK, in other words, a perfect place for Slow Food to be and spread its message. While children enjoyed the Slow Food Kids’ Taste Adventure by looking, touching, smelling, feeling and finally tasting different foods, parents could learn more about the Slow Food movement in general and the way it works in the UK more particularly. Representatives of Slow Food UK and Slow Food Edinburgh engaged many people in conversation to explain the Slow Food ethos and what one could expect from taking part in the movement.
Several hundreds of the visitors tasted with delight some Grana Padano, a delicious Italian cheese produced in Northern Italy. Grana Padano strongly supports Slow Food UK’s education programmes, among which the Slow Food Kids’ Taste Adventure.
