Have you looked at your food really closely? Does your food always smell like it tastes? Which foods go crunch and which go slurp? Can you tell the difference between sweet, salty, bitter and sour tastes?
There’s excitement in the tasting, sniffing and feel of food. The Slow Food Kids’ Taste Adventure, run by Slow Food UK and Slow Food Edinburgh in partnership with Grana Padano, aims to bring these sensations to life at the Big Tent festival, on the edge of the village of Falkland in Fife on Sunday 22 July. Over 250 children are expected to participate in the activity within Scotland’s largest green festival which is at the same time a music, arts and family festival, all-in-one!
The Slow Food Kids’ Taste Adventure is a simple yet fun activity aimed at four to ten year olds but it is loved just as much by the big kids amongst us. It encourages children to think about food and takes them on an inspiring journey through five interactive zones, each with a focus on one of the five senses: taste, sight, touch, smell and sound. Our young Taste Adventurers are given a fun passport and are invited to collect stamps as they explore, interact and make new food discoveries. Parents are not to be forgotten about either, as the end of the adventure will be rewarded by a tasting of Grana Padano, a delicious Italian cheese.
Catherine Gazzoli, Slow Food UK’s CEO, explains, “We get the real taste of our food just as much through our eyes and noses as we do with our tongues. The Slow Food Kids’ Taste Adventure teaches us all to take time to think about taste.”
The activity will be delivered by voluntary members of Slow Food Edinburgh and Slow Food UK with support from Grana Padano.
