Dorset

Being a member of Slow Food Dorset is in many ways a journey of discovery, an adventure on various levels – geographical, gastronomic, educational, and social. It is a way of connecting with the local food community and rural economy, of forging links between local producers and consumers.
We organise a varied programme of events, many of which include visits to food producers. We also organise taste workshops, fishing trips, wild food forages, talks and demonstrations. Our events often include the convivial sharing of a meal, giving members the opportunity to get to know each other and to chat with the event host.
Educational initiatives have included a children’s food adventure quiz at local food festivals, and donating an annual prize to the most promising catering student at Weymouth College. We also invite local experts to talk on a range of topics, such as bio-diversity, farmers’ markets and game-keeping.
As well as enjoying ourselves we learn a lot.
