From two markets to the Festival Dinner, the Big Slow Breakfast and Ready Steady Cook, this year’s 3-day Aylsham Food Festival has something for everyone. For the first time, we’re working with Norfolk Food Festival and our Aylsham event will be one of their feature weekends. The programme is:
Friday 30 September
8.50am to 12 noon – Country Market in Aylsham Town Hall offering a wide range of home produced products, from cakes to sausage rolls, scones, pies and quiches. Also a selection of home grown vegetables, fruit and plants.
7.00pm – The Festival Dinner at Aylsham High School. For just £12 per head, diners will be offered a selection of luxury soups and desserts, all sourced, prepared, cooked and served by students under the watchful eye of their Hospitality & Catering teacher Jason Baxter. Alastair Bradshaw, Catering Manager at the National Trust’s Felbrigg Hall will also be on hand to lend assistance.
The meal will include a cheese tasting, conducted by Catherine Temple and featuring her own ‘Mrs Temple’ cheeses alongside a selection from Ferndale Farmhouse Cheeses.
Wine from the Loire Valley and cider from The Apple Shop at Wroxham Barns is included in the price.
Saturday 1 October
9.00am to 1.00pm – FARMA-accredited Farmers’ Market in Aylsham Market Place. From fruit to fish, apple juice to artisan breads, beef to cheese Aylsham’s very successful Farmers’ Market has a tremendous selection of locally produced food which also includes preserves, chillies, pork and cake.
10.00am to 12.30pm – Ready, Steady, Cook in Aylsham Town Hall. A free, drop-in event where four local chefs – Matthew Miller from the Black Boys in Aylsham; Andrew Baker from the Market Place restaurant in Aylsham; Graham Edgar from the National Trust’s Blickling Hall and freelance Derroll Waller will compete in a format similar to the popular TV show. Ingredients will be sourced from the Farmers’ Market and teams will have an hour to produce dishes to be judged by the audience.
Sunday 2 October
10.00am to 12.00noon – The Big Slow Breakfast in Aylsham Town Hall. This not-to-be-missed family event is always extremely popular and with a ticket price of just £6, is bound to sell out quickly. There’s even a discount for the under 12′s who will pay only £4. A keystone of the Aylsham Food Festival since its inception, the Breakfast will follow its well established format of ‘Full English’ using local produce, with a vegetarian option, cooked by Slow Food members and friends.
Tickets for the Festival Dinner and the Big Slow Breakfast will be available from the middle of August at Salad Days fruit & veg stall in the Market Place and at Barnwells newsagents, also in the Market Place.
We are indebted to our supporters, Broadland District Council, Aylsham High School, the National Trust and Norfolk Food Festival.
